Franconian Forest

The Franconian Forest is also known as the “Green Crown of Bavaria.” This nick-name is very befitting of this northernmost region in Bavaria, where evergreen forests dominate the landscape. The area is a Mecca for cyclists and other physically active travellers.

The scenery is austere yet beautiful. There are expansive tracts of forests, mountain plateaus with spectacular vistas, and deeply carved valleys full of meadows and bubbling creeks with crystal clear water. The Franconian Forest has a lot to offer to hikers, touring cyclists, accomplished mountain bikers, and skiers. And for whitewater enthusiasts a rafting trip down the Wild Rodach River is just what the doctor ordered.

After all this fun and excitement, you can relax and recover at a number of spas and wellness centers. Most notably, there is the Bavarian State Spa Bad Steben among many other towns with similar offerings. Also, don’t miss an opportunity to visit the Lucas Cranach town of Kronach as well as Kulmbach, the “Secret Beer Capital of Bavaria.”
