Rhön

The Rhön is known as “The Land of Open Spaces.” You can enjoy spectacular views of the steep slopes of the basalt hilltops, of remote plateaus and, of course there is the attraction of the highland moors. Welcome to the “Number One Hiking Destination!”

Between the towns of Fladungen, Bad Neustadt, Bad Brückenau, and Hammelburg, there are literally thousands of kilometers of hiking trails crisscrossing the landscape. One of the best is the “Hochrhöner” trail. This highly recommended trail is 180 km long and crosses the unique landscape of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Rhön, taking you across its tallest hills.

Other attractions that have given the Rhön its reputation include the many health resort towns: In close proximity, there are Bad Brückenau, Bad Neustadt, Bad Bocklet, Bad Königshofen, and last but not least Bad Kissingen, which enjoyed great popularity with the nobles of old. For a glimpse of how life used to be in the country, the Open Air Museum Fladungen offers wonderful exhibits.
