Upper Main River Valley - Coburg Region

This area derives its charm from its landscape – the lovely Main River Valley set against a backdrop of hills around the area of Coburg – as well as from grand pieces of art and architecture.

Most impressive among all of it is the so-called “Golden Gate of Franconia:” The Banz Monastery, a magnificent Baroque structure, on one side and the Vierzehnheiligen Basilica on the other side. But this is just the beginning. There are many more castles and fortresses that will take your breath away. Last but not least, there is the “Crown of Franconia,” the Fortress Coburg and the lovely city of Coburg, as well as the Castle Rosenau in the Rödental Valley. The landscape is gently rolling and tranquil with a huge variety of leisure facilities. Mother Nature shows its force at the area’s hot springs. The strongest and warmest thermal brine in all of Bavaria can be found in the town of Bad Staffelstein. For a totally different take on the area you can visit the German Toy Museum in Neustadt b. Coburg or the German Basket Museum in Michelau i. OFr. Also visit the many small towns with their beautiful half-timbered houses, breweries with culinary specialities, festivals.
