Dinkelsbühl

Medieval Christmas flair and franconian delicacies.

A Dinkelsbühl native wrote the lyrics of the popular German Christmas carol “Ihr Kinderlein Kommet.” The city honors this historical connection by hosting a very romantic Christmas market.

The market is located in the courtyard of the historical hospital complex. Offered are Dinkelsbühl pottery items, sheepskin articles, wooden games, as well as herbs and spices. Of special interest is the bazaar with its exclusive handmade, regional articles.

The Dinkelsbühl Christmas market is a special experience due to the Franconian delicacies available, the daily brass and choral concerts, the large model train, and the old-fashioned carousel. Even Santa Claus pays a visit to the market, with nuts and fruit for the children.

The historical hospital courtyard is, however, not the only place in Dinkelsbühl that is decked out for Christmas. The entire medieval town center and especially the St. Georg Cathedral are festively decorated. Inside the cathedral, visitors are greeted by a large, 60 m² nativity scene that depicts a miniature replica of the historical Dinkelsbühl town center.
